The National @ The Orpheum

I was excited because Giosy told me she got Row 2 tickets for the sold out National concert at the Orpheum. "ROW TWO BABY!" were her exact words. Then we arrived...looked at the tickets...and it turned out we were row two of the dress circle! Hah! Oh Giosy....

(I wasn't mad. I just thought it was pretty funny.)

Life Decisions

I've been looking at places to buy lately, and there are so many things I have to consider. I would ultimately like to live in Vancouver (Pros: it's Vancouver!, close to fun, property will be worth more in the future; Cons: far from work, very expensive, will have to settle for a small place). I can get a little 500 sq foot condo in Vancouver for the same price as a 700-800 sq foot place in Burnaby or Richmond...

What I really need is more money!

Imaginary Cities @ Biltmore

Strictest show I've been to at the Biltmore!

Noah & the Whale @ Venue

Noah and the Whale were really fun. There was a long lineup in front of Venue when I arrived, but I marched up to the bouncer and told him that I was doing photos. They are so lax there - he just let me through the door without checking my ID or even if my name was on the guestlist. I thought the band was great. I was there alone so I made friends with the security guy. He had a mad 'stache going on.

The Tea Party @ Commodore

Before going to The Tea Party concert with my friend N, I met up with him at his place for dinner and he made me a salad with chicken. He is an ex-vegetarian, whereas all my friends know that I love my meat.

N: I already had meat for lunch so you can have most of the chicken.
Me: Really? I don't even consider chicken as being real meat... to me this meal is pretty vegetarian!
N: Anything with a face is meat. Do you need it to be a steak for you to consider it as being meat??

(Answer: No. I consider pork and ground beef to be meat too!)

The Tea Party show was definitely a different demographic from the usual hipster crowd (= lots of plaid and big glasses) I am used to. This show was such a sausagefest. There were a lot of older guys, and most of them looked like they drove trucks. It was the first time I didn't get ID'ed going into the Commodore. Must be because no one underage listens to the Tea Party! Hehe.

The CIvil Wars @ The Vogue

Not a very good picture - we sat down for this show so I was a bit far.

The Mac Shack

I didn't have lunch until 4pm today...so I treated myself to some good old mac and cheese at The Mac Shack!

Flying

You know what's cool? When you befriend someone who flies planes as a hobby and he invites you to come on a plane ride with him.  It was the smallest plane I have ever been in (4 seater Piper). My car has more space than the plane. The little Volkswagen Golf (which I test drove yesterday) has way more horsepower than this plane!

Sharp turns are fun

Downtown

The views were amazing, and it was definitely an experience. Conclusion: having your own personal pilot is fun! I recommend it to everyone :)

Sunset

Sunset in Hawaii - taken with my Holga

When I heard on the radio that the time change with the DST is happening this Sunday, it hit me - it's November. It's almost winter. It's going to get dark at 4pm soon. For some reason, I haven't noticed it this year. I haven't even really minded the change from the sunny days of summer to the rain & wind of the fall. Is it because I no longer mainly rely on transit? Is it because I am stuck indoors most of the time at work anyway, so that I don't even care if it's raining or not? Or is it because I've been too busy to notice (I've been go-go-go for the past couple of months)?

I used to get so depressed in the fall/winter during my school days because of the lack of sunlight and the abundance of rain (I HATE when cars spray water all over you while you're standing on the sidewalk!), but I was amazed this morning when I realized how different I feel this year. Even when it started pouring/hailing this afternoon and I was caught without an umbrella, I just walked into a souvenir store in Gastown unfazed, bought an umbrella, and kept walking around downtown as rivulets of water streamed down the sidewalk and little pieces of hail bounced all over my boots. I didn't mind it at all - in fact, I actually kind of enjoyed it!
